Twin Cities: Tracing

Minneapolis and St. Paul or the Twin cities, lie on the banks of the Mississippi river are the two largest cities in the state of Minnesota - ‘The Land of 10,000 lakes’. The analysis looks at the interdependencies of Transportation systems and the constant flux in industries with Environment playing an underlying role which supports it all.

 

The rapid change in industries and its demand for a certain type of transportation resulted in some infrastructure becoming obsolete, in this case, the abandonment of 50% of the railway lines in Minnesota. It also led to a higher inflow of immigrant population even though the Twin cities still has a major (65%) of white people. Looking at employment and ethnicity bar chart of Minneapolis, the employment in the ‘others’ category far exceeds the population in that category. This can be attributed to the presence of tech companies and its high demand for outsourced jobs.
